You Matter To Me

These shows represent the kind of art I like to create and the impact I seek to make.

SIX

A show made up of all women, who happen to be bad-ass, highlights the importance of hearing and supporting female stories. The queens’ fierce and unapologetically bold attitudes represent the kind of strong characters I love to play.

DOG FIGHT

Despite being set in the 1960s, Dogfight features a female lead who gets to keep her power in the end. It is about accepting oneself and others unconditionally, and about the power of forgiveness that leads to second chances.

RENT

This show unites a community of artists to fight for human rights and the greater good of society. It affirms love in all forms and reminds us to live for today because tomorrow is not promised. Rent humanely depicts people living with AIDS and coping with addiction, and shines a spotlight on violence perpetrated against the LGBTQIA+ community.

ROCKY HORROR SHOW

This weird, campy acid trip is a love letter to odd-balls of all kinds and a big “F-U” to the status quo. It asks us to live our dreams out loud and to refrain from judging books by their covers

WAITRESS

Waitress is all about female empowerment and the strength one can find in a strong support system of friends. It shines a light on the difficult realities of domestic abuse and offers a blueprint for embracing change rather than suffering from it.

110 IN THE SHADE

In this lesser-known Golden Age musical, Lizzie learns to celebrate her true self, even though she is scorned by the rest of society for being different. It is a life-affirming show about the importance of dreams, no matter how big or how small.

INTO THE WOODS

By reframing classic fairytales, we can all learn valuable life lessons at any age. We can recognize there is light and dark in everyone, all wishes come at a price, the whole of the community is greater than the sum of its parts, and that no one is alone. Other themes include sacrifice, love, loss, fear, hope, truth, and generational trauma.

SPRING AWAKENING

As the title suggests, this show is about hope and renewal. It highlights the importance of listening to children in order to be able to meet their needs, and the consequences of missing information and misinformation. We learn how perfectionism, loneliness, and expectations impact youth and how sexual exploration is an inevitable part of growing up.

HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH

Most importantly, Hedwig unites actors of all gender and racial identities and gives otherwise marginalized stories a place to be seen and heard. Here we can celebrate ourselves with no apologies, as well as explore the raw vulnerability and impact of trauma.

CINDERELLA

A tale as old as time, Cinderella (strong female lead) is the embodiment of dreams and possibilities. She recognizes the importance of faith, hope, kindness, and mentorship, and she goes on a fantastical journey to find independence. The show is also a rallying cry for all people to stand up for themselves and stand together in solidarity.
